Well, we are  pleased to announce that Karl and various members of Dudley Hill ARLFC have completed the head shave and have so far raised in excess of £1500 and donations are still coming in. History of Odsal Stadium

Bradford Northern took charge of Odsal on January 1st 1934 with very little work done on the site, in fact the work left to do was vast, all the site contained on that day was a huge bowl shaped arena, with high sloping sides of earth and rubbish that had been strategically dumped by the Bradford cleansing dept. At this point it was very hard to imagine that it could ever become a Rugby League ground.

Throughout the coming months of 1934 work slowly transformed the arena into something that resembled a sports ground, but not without its difficulties as the club had to turn to the public in an aid to have a playing surface to play on,  the public could buy a piece of turf  at 6d (2p)  and donate it to the club. It was calculated around 49,500 pieces were required to cover the entire surface at a total cost of £1,237 10 s 0d (£1237.50) the idea was, that everyone who had bought a piece of turf a grid would be put together showing which piece they had bought and hung in the club house when built, but this idea never came to any fruition.

With time running out it became apparent that before the start of the season money was becoming very short and there was a lot of work to be done including a stand to erect and a perimeter fence, however the Rugby League to came there aid on June 7th and granted a loan of £2000, the stand was small and situated where the players underground dressing rooms are today.

The first match to be held at Odsal was Northern's 2nd game of the 34/35 season against Huddersfield. Sadly though the result at Bradford's new home was not meant to be that day, going down 31-16, it must also be noted too that at this time the playing surface was as flat as a billiard table. Despite the new home and surroundings it took Northern some time to break the Odsal duck it was on November 17th with a 15-2 victory against Featherstone Rovers it finally came.

Odsal has hosted quite a few events over the decades not just Rugby league including Baseball, Tennis, Show Jumping, Basketball, Speedway, Trotting, Cricket, Football,  and the odd boxing match and most recently held a concert.
Odsal remains iconic in Rugby League mainly as it still holds the record attendance for a Rugby League match, 102,569 in 1954 for the Warrington-Halifax Challenge cup final. It also holds the record for a non final Rugby League match attendance 69,429 which was Northern V Huddersfield in 1953, and in recent times held the Super league Attendance record 24,020 for a match against the Leeds Rhinos but lost this to Wigan in 2005.  It must also be noted that speedway was hugely successful at Odsal founded in 1945, but sadly disbanded in 1997. There have been talks of speedway returning but this seems a distance hope at the moment.

Whilst in todays electrical era its common to see Odsal on T.V either on Sky Sports or the BBC, ITV, Bradford Northern's first televised match from Odsal came in 1953 on January 10th against arch rivals Leeds which the result went in the favour of Northern 34-5. Over the years many plans have been put forward to make it the Wembley of the North and have a sporting village at Odsal but these ideas have always fallen through or been blocked for whatever reason, lets hope one day that the dream will become reality, and Odsal will truly be the icon it deserves to be in Rugby League.

The General Strikes Again

In this week's edition,

Weekly Recap.

Weekly Recap.

This week it was the turn of Hull FC to grace Odsal. It was a wet day with a very swirling wind and sunny spells - the joys of the Odsal climate.
Jay was there selling Golden Gamble tickets which helps the club develop the youth coming through this means that everyone who buys one is helping the club as well as being in a prize draw so we thank everyone who bought one this week.

Time was getting on and the rain was on and off along with the wind which was cold and swirling. Kick-off was approaching and Tom and his family had just made it after being held up in traffic after an accident on the motorway.
As the weather was not great Tom decided that it would be best to watch the game in the Touchdown bar as he had his two boys with him.
Well the game was a good one even though we went in 12-10 down at half-time.
During the interval Jimmy must have said some really good things as we came out and performed much better in the second-half and ended up winning the game 34-28.
That's now three on the bounce for the boys! It's looking like we will be going into the Championship with our heads held high as I cannot see us losing another game now. You can see highlights of our win over Hull FC by  CLICKING HERE.

BULLieve were invited to attend the man-of-the
match presentation in the coral stand where we heard from the winner Lee Gaskell and met some of the players who were superb in giving up their time to sign shirts and pose for pictures.

The big news to come out of the Bulls this week is that Danny Addy has decided to stay with us and, has signed a new two-year-deal!
Also this week Chev Walker has committed himself to the Bulls by penning a new one-year-deal. Chev becomes the 13th addition to Jimmy’s plans for next season and will certainly be a huge asset during our campaign with his wealth of experience.

Absolutely fantastic of Danny and Chev to stick by the club and the fans, we are all made up!
The Bulls have also launched a new partnership with the Bradford Telegraph and Argus. The T&A will now be commercial partners for an initial one-year-deal.
This is showing how strong the Bulls brand is and how it’s growing stronger by the day.
Listening to the fans and looking at various comments, we are all happy and for once in a very long time we are looking forward to next season and extremely optimistic about the future. The past is firmly in the past and the club is going forward in a way which none of us could see possible going back 18 months.

This week we asked for your A sign if you supported RL4Alex and here pictured is Adam O'Brien and Tom and Kirsty's sons doing the A sign. Thank you for your time and the picture Adam.

Here is Jay before the game doing his own A sign.

As you may recall a young lad called Hayden Harrison, who plays for Dudley Hill ARLFC is raising cash for the Macmillan nurses who helped his family whilst his granddad sadly passed away of brain cancer. He and countless others are doing a head shave this Sunday and are wanting to raise £500. So far they are just under half way of that target and are looking for people to kindly donate. We can reveal that our very own Karl Pratt will be doing the head shave to help raise cash too! Karl and all the other people involved in this very special fundraiser THIS SUNDAY will take place at  Dudley Hill's ground. Please dig deep if you can, and donate as much or as little as you can afford. You can donate online by clicking HERE

A History of the "General".

James Lowes was born the 11th October 1969, before signing for the Bulls he  had played for Hunslet and Leeds. Jimmy signed for Leeds from Hunslet in September 1992 but left at the dawn of Super League era during his 4 seasons at Leeds Jimmy had appeared in 2 Challenge cup finals in 1994 and 1995 scoring in the latter. It was in 1996 that Jimmy's career really took off when he signed for the Bulls. In 1997 Jimmy went on to win the man of steel award and also top try scorer and became a huge catalyst behind the Bulls success and mainly the driving force behind the formidable pack.  In 2002 Jimmy topped the Bradford tackle count with 620 hits. Jimmy also went on to star for Great Britain between 1996-1999. During Jimmy's playing days was a great organiser and defender as well, just as being deadly in attack when nearing the opponents line.

In total Jimmy played 238 games for the club scoring 99 tries and one drop goal before retiring after the grand final win at the end of 2003 season and scoring the final try of the match in typical Jimmy fashion with a scramble from dummy half. In all Jimmy gained 5 Great Britain caps during his time with the Bulls. Lowes was included in the "Millennium masters" and "Bull Masters" and in August 2007 was named in team of the century. Only 6 players have made all 3 lists those being Lowes, Karl Fairbank , Keith Mumby, Robbie Paul and Ernest Ward. Jimmy also went on for a short spell in rugby union at the end of his league career with West Park Leeds. After Jimmy's playing days he went on to coaching, his coaching career actually began at Bradford in 2004 under the guidance of Brian Noble before moving to Salford the following season.

In July 2007 he joined Paul Cullen,s coaching staff at Warrington and took charge of the club between June 2008 and March 2009 in a caretaker capacity before working under Tony Smith for 2 seasons. In 2010 Jimmy returned back to the Leeds Rhinos in a coaching capacity. It was in 2013 Jimmy switched codes in coaching and became the head coach of Leeds Carenegie.

It was then Mid Season of this current year as we are all aware Jimmy made it clear that he made his intentions clear and returned "home" to the Bulls after the sackings of Francis Cummins and Lee st Hillaire. It was not the first time he had been interested in the Bulls hot seat as Jimmy had applied in 2011 when Mick Potter took the reigns from Steve McNamara.

During Jimmy's time as a player with the Bulls his own personal honours include 3 Super league titles, 2 Challenge Cups and a World club Championship. After our rich vein of form and instilling the belief and desire into the squad how many more honours can he add as a Head Coach.

This we are just going to have to wait and see. But interesting times certainly lay ahead and with Jimmy in charge the future certainly looks bright.

BULLieve met the General. Jay, Jimmy and Tom.

BULLieve in the community

This week has been a quiet week due to the Challenge cup weekend in which the final is between Leeds Rhinos and the Castleford Tigers, an all Yorkshire final and may the best team win.

Myself and Tom have had the privilege to go to Odsal this week, and meet with Ryan Sparks ( Media executive ) and Karl Pratt and visit a local community club, Dudley Hill ARLFC It was a great insight into the club and having a peek around our club shop and into the ticket office was great! From our perspective, the club is saying and doing all the right things and working very hard to bring the fans a team and club to be even more proud of than we already are.

We have all now been told that James Donaldson is now to become a Hull KR player of next season. This is a loss granted but, to be fair as said in the last blog we will lose players. Salary caps don't make it possible for us to keep hold of all players and careers are short.
Although some may feel Donno owes the club for sticking by him when he had his injuries, he also stuck by the club when we nearly folded but, that is just our opinion.

In better news, Adam Henry has signed a new 1 year deal with the club! At only 24 years of age, Adam can build on becoming an even better player than he currently is. The squad is now looking great and taking shape daily!

What we want to know is who is next? We have had so many new signings that, it could be anyone and we are very much excited to find out just like all other bulls fans are.

Do you buy a Golden Gamble ticket? Well come see Jay on Sunday who will be selling the tickets. At only £1 a ticket you could win a great cash prize!

Talking of cash prizes, have you signed up to the Big One lottery? £1 a week can put you into the lottery in which you could win cash prizes daily and be entered in the annual draw to win £5000. Please Click Here to sign up as, if you ain't in it, you can't win it. The first draw will take place this weekend and the first 5 winners announced at half time during the game between Hull FC.

Will you be supporting the lads on Sunday? We are at home against Hull FC and would like to see as many people as possible cheering on the lads. We will be there so, come say hello and you may feature in our next blog. Kick off is at 3pm.

Just today we have had a tweet regarding where fans live. Andy Wright tweeted us, I was born raised in Bradford now live in Cheshire, any other bulls fans in similar predicament?

Let's find out where our fans are now situated as we have an expansive fan base and would be interesting who is furthest away. Tweet us or comment on our Facebook group and we will reveal who is furthest in our next blog.

Spotlight Section.

This week we have chosen to do a spotlight feature on Dudley Hill ARLFC.

As part of community links we feel that using local clubs as a feature helps spread the word about grass roots rugby league. This week we took a trip with Karl Pratt to Dudley Hill ARLFC and had a chat and looked around the ground.

Here is the  history of the club taken from their website ( with permission )

Established just after the First World War, Dudley Hill has a very long, proud and illustrious history. The team originally played from the old Bierley estate led by Rugby League legend Stanley Brogden. After his top class career with Leeds, Yorkshire and Great Britain as a quality stand-off, Stanley wanted to put something back into the grassroots of Rugby League.
The club was disbanded prior to the Second World War. It was due to Les Brady and Vincent Heslop that the Club was reformed in 1948. Les Brady was running the very successful Bierley under eighteen team at the time.
Mick Oldfield became the first Dudley Hill player to play for Yorkshire in the post-war period, Vinnie Heslop was the first player to progress to Bradford Northern and Richard Rudd the first international player.
During the next few decades, a host of players followed Vinnie and Mick, some into professional ranks and some playing representative amateur honours for Bradford, Yorkshire and Great Britain.
The formation of the British Amateur League Association (B.A.R.L.A) in 1973 was to be the catalyst for the Hill to move forward. In that season Dudley Hill finished the old Bradford League at the bottom. As result, when the Regional Leagues were established, Dudley Hill were placed in the new Pennine League 3rd Division. The Club worked tirelessly to progress in successive years from the 3rd to the 1st division before finally reaching the Premier Division.
The 1973 season saw Dudley Hill start their long climb to the very pinnacle of the amateur game. Even with the improved results and a stronger team, it was not until 1979 that Dudley Hill won their first winner's Trophy. The Bradford League Seven-a-side Competition. Hill's ambition was realised in 1987 when Hill gained membership of the 12-team inaugural National Conference League.
A major tragedy affected the development of the club. It has to be said that this tragedy kick-started the club and inspired key members to accelerate development in the memory of Neil Hunt. December 1976 was the month and year that Neil Hunt was to lose his life as a result of an accident on the field of play. Neil suffered a broken neck in a one-on-one tackle, a freak accident that we hope we have never to experience again. Neil was 16 years old and was making his way in what was becoming a very promising career that was tragically terminated.
September 1st, 1979 was the year Dudley Hill moved to the new Neil Hunt Memorial the ground was dedicated to the memory of Neil by St Johns Church Vicar, the Reverend Mr. J Fry.
In December 2001, it was re-dedicated in a ceremony to remember Neil Hunt 25 years on. Along the way from 1979 until 1992 Dudley Hill won every trophy available to them at local, Regional and National Level. During the period 1984 to 1992 they were at the very pinnacle of the amateur game
In December 2001 Dudley Hill are to celebrate the last 25 years of the clubs history, in that time the club has seen major success both on and off the field. On the field the club has achieved success in all the games major competitions, pride of place goes indeed to the successful years around the 1980's when the Hill were to win very trophy available to them in a purple period for the club from 1984 until 1986 wining the BARLA National Cup, BARLA Yorkshire Cup, BARLA National Sevens, Pennine League Premier Division, Pennine Cup, Bradford Cup 3 times running as well as numerous Sevens titles.
1997 saw the Hill be instrumental in establishing the New National Conference League along with the inaugural other 11 teams that made up the very first league. In 1990 Dudley Hill won the National League title under the Coaching of Peter Roe and Kelvin Lockett.
In 1991 Dudley Hill under the coaching of Kelvin Lockett also finished up very credible runners-up in the BARLA National Cup final in Salford.
A tragic car accident followed at the start of the following season when several members of the first team squad were involved in a serious accident on the way to a social event in Whitley Bay which resulted in two of the stars of the 1991 Cup Final runners up, Stuart Tighe and Paul Baxter were to receive serious injuries. Stuart Tighe, a current U21 International losing his leg.
The success of the Youth & Junior levels was the catalyst for the formation of a Youth & Junior development programme. The programme is the envy of all Yorkshire developing teams at every age group. 1987 saw the formation of a Women's team who were inaugural members of the fledgling first Women's League.
1993 saw the fulfillment of a dream for Dudley Hill with floodlights, new dressing rooms, and an extension and refurbishment of the clubhouse. This was made possible by an arts and sports council grant of £75,000.
The work was lead by Fred Berry who saw the dream through on time for the commencement of the 1993-94 season when the improvements were opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Bob Sowman.
Thirteen players are to be identified for inclusion in the Dudley Hill Hall of Fame, which will be announced during the 25-year celebration dinner to be held in December 2001. Andy Harland will lead the panel which will include life members of the Club including Roger Burnham, Bernard Dotchin, Monty Denton and club stalwart Ian Dickinson. I am sure it will be a very difficult task to choose just thirteen players from the last sixty odd years. It has been long overdue that we should honour the debt that we owe to the past players, committee members, coaches, and supporters of Dudley Hill ARLFC. The List was announced to a packed house at the Neil Hunt Memorial on Friday 21st December 2001.
We are a local community club who provide expert tuition in sport, specifically Rugby League Football, from ages 8 right though to open age at the highest possible amateur level.
The club became the first club in the country in 2002 to receive the RFL’s Club Mark Accreditation, which give us the title of Safe, Effective and Child friendly Club, in essence a quality club.
We have open age sides currently running all year round. Our main priority at the moment is the summer team, who are playing in the forth tier of the RFL’s National Competition. Three levels below the Engage Super League.
The LHF National League Three has now been running for three years, going into its forth this coming summer. In that time we have finished top of the tree as minor premiers on two occasions and in 2005 we also went to the LHF Grand final at Widnes Halton Stadium, where we beat Bramley Buffaloes to become Champions. We also came top off our group in the Northern Trains Cup where we progressed to playing against professional side Hull K.R the team that went on to win the cup.
Our winter open age team us currently playing in the Pennine League Division 1, and have been doing well in our local cups, becoming finalist’s in the Bradford Cup held at Odsal stadium in 03/04 season and we are hoping to go one better this time around. We also have the clubs under 18s playing in the flagship Halifax Home Insurance National Youth League which is one level below professional Academy leagues in 2007. In 2009 the senior team plays in the Fraser Eagle National Conference League Division 1 after gaining promotion in 2006/07 after returning to winter RL in 2006/07
In April 2009, Bradford Dudley Hill were awarded the Clubmark Gold accreditation by Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe at Odsal Stadium, Bradford.
On the 19th December 2009, Bradford Dudley will hold an event to celebrate the last 30 years at the Neil Hunt Memorial Ground, after leaving the De Lacy Public House in 1979, opening the new ground on the 1st September 1979.
Importance of the evening was to share with each other the great stories of coaches and characters the club has had over the last 30 years, these include the great Albert Fearnley, the certainly fearsome Tony Fisher and probably the most successful decade the club has ever had, was the 1984, 85, 86 sides, they set the bar they won the lot with, local regional and National titles, we had great internationals players like Mark Todd, Ray Priestley and Kev Whiteley and fantastic players like Albert Hannah, Bob Jowett, Barry Holden, Andy Meakin, Adrian Collett, a young Gary Brentley, and an even younger Phil Helliwell, many of whom gave great service to the club, others who chose to peruse a professional career with great success, we had Graham Hallas who went on to be our first Great Britain Professional tourist in 1992 and in the late 90s Henry Sharp and Mick Keebles, all of whom received quality coaching from the likes of Garth Budge, Mick Doyle (coach of the 84 team) and Peter Roe, who clinched the NCL title in the start of the new decade in 1990 before decimating the team, by taking most of the team and coaching staff with him when he took the job at Halifax.
Kelvin Locketts team rose from the ashes of the decimated side we lost in 1990, we were to made the National cup final at the end of 1992 to go down agonizingly to a dubious try, great players in this team included the long standing John Exley, (did he really play in the Pennine Cup final 1979 and played last summer in Australia for the touring Masters GB team) we had Stuart Tighe, sadly to lose his leg in a tragic accident, Richard Tiffany and Craig Hillam. There was also the great team that played and beat professional teams York and Keighley in the RL Challenge Cup, we had some really special players, but all was built on the hard core of the juniors we have developed at our club.
Announcement of the toast to the players/members, who dug the well that we all have drunk from for the last thirty years, we honoured the names of Frank Hodgson, Vinnie Heslop, Bernard Dotchin, Clifford Turnpenny, Rodger Burnham, Ronnie Dobson, Andy Harland, Fred Berry and Mark Tordoff in 2008. Ladies and Gentlemen the “The men who dug the Well” thank you
The legacy continued with a short excursion into the summer era, success in this laid the foundations of our side today, quality junior coaching from our own Kelvin Lockett, who I think has coached almost every player we have had at some time over the last 30 years, what an effort for our Chairman, our team now includes a very healthy sprinkling of former juniors like the three Dickinson brothers, the sublime Lewis Evans, Antony Huby and another try scoring freak Neil Wall, not forgetting the rich talents of former juniors, Craig Kcopzac, David Halley and Neil Cherryholme, mention of coaches in the 0's include Chris Robinson who came back and performed a great job as coach, Jason Hoyland who did a difficult job in 2008/09 but got us back on track.
As for the next decade most of it is in the hands for Kelvin, Jason Lee, Steve Pryce and Kevin Whiteley, and the terrific young junior players following in the footsteps of the giants of our clubs history, they need our support, guidance and encouragement to continue to drive the club forward, but they can not do it by themselves, it needs everybody to row in the same direction, strong leadership and a steady ship to continue this great memorial to a fantastic young player who is no longer with us.
A presentation of a framed picture of Neil Hunt was presented to the club from Terry and Audrey Hunt; this will be put on show for all to see in a prominent area for all to see.

The club have a couple of events happening and there is on this Sunday. The fun starts at 10am so, why not pop along before you head up to Odsal for our game?

Everyone at Dudley Hill was very welcoming and had time for us. This is a great club with a proud tradition of rugby league. If your child would like to become involved in rugby league then do not hesitate to contact the club directly or alternatively you could give them a follow on Twitter @hill_rlfc

History of our club.

To this day still Rugby League matches are predominantly held on a Sunday afternoon, we now have Sky sports that like to mess things up a little bit for us all, but have you ever wondered why games are played on a Sunday? Back in 1967/68 season Bradford Northern were one of the first to create Rugby League history. Traditionally matches were played on a Saturday, but 2 games were scheduled for Sunday December 17th 1967 with Bradford Northern playing at home to York in the league, and Leigh entertaining Dewsbury, to see what reaction was like over the Pennines in Lancashire.
The match at Odsal kicked off at 2:30pm, whilst the Leigh game did not get under way until 3:00pm. So by the grace of 30 minutes it could be said that Northern were the first club to stage a home league fixture to be played on a Sunday.
The match was played on a cold wet and dismal afternoon and a crowd of 10,377 watched Northern beat York by 33~8. With such good crowds at Odsal and Leigh, other Sunday games were tried and throughout the next two seasons, until finally the decision was made to make playing on Sundays permanent.
Ever wondered why Bradford Northern earned its name Northern??
On September 7th 1907 Bradford played there first match at their new home Greenfield stadium against Huddersfield. The new committee of the Bradford club wondered if many people thought rugby was dead in the city due to the poor turnout of support and people did not know that the sport was still being played, over at park avenue the football team were playing under the name Bradford F.C and the park avenue tag was not added for a couple more seasons whilst the rugby club were just playing under the name Bradford.
To distinguish the 2 sports and to let the people know that the 2 clubs were entirely separate the committee informed the N.R.F.L on September the 10th 1907 that the club would now be known as Bradford Northern, and Northern Rugby Football was still being played in the city. The name Northern stayed until 1995 when as we all are aware became the re-branding and the Bulls tag was added. People often wonder why the name Northern was chosen maybe because they played in the North of England or people thought that the ground was in the Northern part of the city, but Greenfield, Birch lane, and Odsal all actually lay in the South East of the City of Bradford.

Special Mentions.

We would like to say a massive thank you to,

Ryan Sparks and Karl Pratt of the Bradford Bulls For inviting us to Odsal for a chat and then onto to Dudley Hill ARLFC.

This weeks recap

Seriously what can we say? The win over Wigan was brilliant but, to beat Leeds on their own turf was emphatic! We maybe a part of the championship from next season but the bragging rights are ours. We headed over to Leeds with the pride, determination and fighting spirit we knew we could use against our arch rivals to get the win we needed. We used every ounce of each to over power the team everyone wants to beat but this was extra special as the Leeds fans thought it would be a walk in the park and come up with a cricket score yet, wasn't they to be eating their own words?. We cannot single out a man of the match as, the whole squad pulled together to get the all important (dubbed to some) grand final win. You can see highlights by clicking the link Rhinos 14 Bulls 20

One stand out player who made a crucial chase and try saving tackle was the young, impressive Elliot Kear. The youngster was all over the field tackling and throwing passes and generally being in the right place at the right time. We hope he will be given a new contract but let's wait and see.

The whole squad was rewarded after the game with a pint in the chapel house pub in which was very much deserved! Now the lads have a few days off training as its Challenge cup weekend but all have said they want to end the season on a high.

Bulls News

Over the past week it has been a very busy one in terms of sorting out the club and importantly the team for the forth coming season.
Last Wednesday our owner Marc Green held a public meeting in the Cedar court hotel which was filled to the brim with some supporters unable to get inside watch the evenings proceedings on screens outside which, shows how popular our club is and how much of a strong fan base we still have despite recent events.
The event called " An Evening With The Bulls" was a complete success with, the announcement that Tom Olbison and Adam Sidlow had re signed contracts to keep them with us and, the re launch of the bulls lottery " The Big One". To join the big one please call 08448 711 490.
Charlie Ebbage was inducted as a ' life  member ' of the Bulls and then new signings Jake Mullaney and Dan Fleming were formally unveiled to the 1,000 strong crowd. The Bulls have also launched their new hashtag on Twitter which is now #BullsForever and you can follow the official account by searching for @OfficialBullsRL

Another positive move by James Lowes was the signing of Dave Petersen. Dave, once a Hull Kr player joins us from Australia currently playing for the intrust super cup outfit, Mackay Cutters and will join us in October. Petersen has grown as a player playing for the Cutters and could not turn down the offer of a UK return and to play for the Bulls saying:

“The idea of playing under James Lowes was what swayed my decision to sign for the Bulls, knowing someone who cares so much about the club is in charge.
I have really progressed as a player during my time with the Cutters and have lived a great lifestyle in Australia, but feel ready to return to the UK and kick on.
This is a big chance for me and I want to make an impact. Bradford is a great club, with fantastic supporters and firm foundations in place, and I hope to help the Bulls get back to where they belong.
I am extremely enthusiastic and am committed to working very hard. That is the kind of game I will be bringing to the Bulls.
I saw signing for Mackay, rather than staying with the Rovers, as a chance to better my life and career and I believe I have done that. Now I am looking forward to my future with Bradford.”
you can follow Dave by searching @Petersen92 on Twitter.

Yesterday was revealed that super star Brett Kearney will be returning home at the end of the season. The decision was not taken lightly but Kearney said that family has to come first and we all respect that. Kearney has been a fantastic player for us since joining back in 2010. He has stuck by us during the hard times where, he could of easily have walked away from the club when we faced extinction. BRETT WE THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!  Have a great future and please keep in touch.

Yesterday it was  announced that former Bull, Karl Pratt has been appointed the "big One" lottery manager.Pratt is to head up a four-strong team under the tutelage of 'legendary lottery guru' Alf Davies, which includes administration manager Jeanette Stow, collections executive Denise Krelle and sales executive Graham Murphy.
And, just this evening our newest signing was announced LIVE on air on the Robbie-Hunter-Paul show on the Pulse 1. Our newest signing is Etu Uaisele, welcome to the club to you and your wonderful family  will be welcomed with open arms by the best fans in rugby league!

Jim Mills Interview

We decided this week to have a chat with a true legend of Rugby League and most of all a great guy, no other than BIG Jim Mills. Former Widnes, Halifax. Salford, Bradford, Workington and North Sydney Forward who was actually sent off more than 20 times in his career. If you think Gareth Hock was a bad boy this fella could run rings around the guys of super league. Jim was a huge fast and very intelligent forward who would always drive it in and never take a backward step. As time has moved on the Big Fella has certainly mellowed but has some very special memories of playing with Bradford Northern. When asked about Super League today has nothing but admiration and especially for the Bulls who he still looks for there scores today.

What was your inspiration to play rugby?
"I was brought up in wales and played football at school  I was a goalkeeper and Sid Judd approached me one day to say I was too big for football and I should try playing rugby so I left school and went to Cardiff union"

What were your memories of Trevor Foster?

"We were very good friends indeed, sadly I never had the chance to play alongside him but he was a great guy who had saved the club from oblivion already. Trevor was a staunch catholic and he would walk everywhere or catch a bus you could never give him a lift. The irony of it all was that Trevor died the same day as the pope sadly I was away on a cruise at the time but when I got home I read the T&A on the front there was the was the passing of the pope then turn it over to sport and Trevor had passed away too something you couldn't really make up very sad indeed he really was a great guy"

GB or England?

" GB all the way I have no disrespect to the England team at all but it felt as though it really meant something especially with the history of tours gone by it should be reverted back to GB"

Would you have rather played the game now or in your time?

"Certainly in my time as the players were far more skill full so definitely back then the players today are incredibly fit and trained very well but I also had a great coach Vince Karaelaus he was a great bloke. I remember in 74 we took on the Oz yes they were bloody quick but we had power and skill to match so yes I had a great time"

Bit of a reputation for being sent off....

"Ah yes but I was a hard running forward I think the worst thing I ever did was stomp on a NZ player that was probably the worst"
What is your opinion of the referees in Super League at the moment.
"Its a game that has become so fast its 100Mph and they are doing the best they possibly can there is only one thing  I would like to see back and that's a scrum you compete for not all this, the ball is yours where you really have to drive in and compete. to some degree the game has got too fast as you see scores of 64-12 for arguments sake and even the players cant keep up but that's where the game has gone and have to accept that"

Would you say players are better advised these days?

"Without a doubt as all players have agents etc advising best options after all back in my day I was a drayman in Halifax where these players today are doing it day in day out but I must say it was a great way too keep fit"

Do you still look for bulls scores?

"Yes I do and I still have a very soft spot for them too its a shame we could not have kept the team together Frank foster, Geoff Clarkson, Neil Fox, Frank Whitcombe this squad would have won everything but they moved on mainly for the cash quite sad really. But yes I still look for the scores"

In your opinion what do you think the downfall of the bulls was?

"it has to be the whole Harris situation that was the turning point without going into detail that's what brought the Bulls to its knees."

Finally Jim any words to any aspiring players out there?

"Yes train hard and keep fit and always be the best you can possibly be".
Many thanks to Jim Mills For his time to speak to us we wish you all the best.

Insight into RL4ALEX

This week I have had the pleasure of speaking to a brilliant guy, Stuart Whiteley, chairperson of RL4ALEX. This is a charity that we support and we hope that you will support too. We have our own Bulls advocates of the charity too!
Here pictured is Chev Walker, Nathan Conroy and Adam O'Brien doing the famous "A sign"

Also representing the Bulls is Adam O'Brien and Danny Addy.  Live on SKY doing the "A SIGN" after scoring a try.
BullBoy and Alex at a fundraising event in the Kirkgate centre Bradford

So, onto the interview:
Can you give us a brief background on what the charity is and what it entails?
RL4ALEX is a not for profit charity that supports and develops the inclusion of intellectually disable and ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) children within mainstream sports, Primarily Rugby League.
This is achieved through #InclusiveRL which is the provision of player mentoring, coaching support, club education and awareness to develop a inclusive environment within existing Rugby League clubs.

Who is Alex? ( for those who don't know)
Alex is my Son and my own as well as the charity's inspiration.

Why did you set the charity up?
Through Alex's own desire to participate within Rugby League it became apparent that there was a gap within the game around supporting children with difficulties like his. After a lot of searching and asking questions with little or no answers coming back regarding what support or guidance was available to help him to be part of the game, It required something to be created to provide that support and go to place for clubs and coaches so children like Alex can be supported and included within existing set ups without being excluded or treated differently.
Who is eligible to take part?
Any child from age 6 to 16 described as been on the Autistic Spectrum of Disorders or Intellectually Disabled
Advocates what and who are they?
Our Advocates are collectively known as 'Alex's Army'. They are a group of professional rugby league players from the Super League, Championship and Championship 1 who support our cause and inclusive mission, Showing their support with the #ASign hand symbol, Especially when scoring a try!

Can people become involved?
Of course, We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities available, whatever your skill set or level of experience, No experience is necessary as training will be given all we ask is that you are enthusiastic and passionate about making a difference. If you are interested in volunteering then please contact us at stuart@rl4alex.org.uk

What events do you do?
We encourage fundraisers and events from clubs and local companies to help support our cause and raise awareness, we support these events and attend along with members from our 'Alex's Army' and mascots and members of local clubs helping raise the profile of both the event, our charity and the organisation/club supporting us.
Our next event in our honor is the Leeds Masters Rugby League Festival. 16/8/14 at Farnley Falcons ARLFC, Leeds. KO 1pm. We would like to thank Kath Wilson, Ian Worthington and the Leeds Masters for organising the event and adopting us as their worthy cause
.

What merchandise do you have to offer?
We currently have a full range of apparel and head guards from our offical partner Impact Rugby which can be purchased direct from their website www.impactrugby.co.uk and search for RL4ALEX with other merchandise currently being developed.

How can I help spread the word?
